It is very difficult for a remote location such as a campground or RV park to get access to a fast Internet service for the guests to use.
Some campgrounds are already using Starlink for Internet access as they need the Internet for management of the business with reservations and credit card processing. Starlink offers a speed of between 100 and 200Mb/s and can be used to provide a WiFi Internet service for guests. The guest service must be isolated with a firewall to protect the business computers and PoS. One Starlink antenna can connect 50 to 75 guests when each guest has a low data speed limit such as 2Mb/s. Average size campgrounds and RV parks may have 300 guests.
The campground or RV park can provide a WiFi Internet service for more people by adding extra Starlink antennas. 150-200 guests can connect to the Internet with two Starlink antennas and 300-400 guests can access the Internet with four Starlink antennas.
Multiple Starlink antennas are connected to the campground or RV park network using Guest Internet controllers. The Guest Internet controllers also have special features for campground guests.
- Shares the Internet service between the campground or RV park guests to ensure that each gets a good WiFi Internet service.
- Connects up to four Starlink antennas to provide a greater data capacity for more guests, with load balancing and fail-over.
- A PCI DSS compliant firewall protects the business computers and PoS when guests are connected to the network.
- Access code generation prints codes onto vouchers for guests, this is important to control who is using the Internet service.
- Charge for the Internet service with on-line credit card billing or WiFi voucher sales. Guest Internet also has a PoS feature for Internet sales.
- Prevent sharing of copyrighted files to ensure that the service is not disconnected.
- Prevents abuse of the service with protection mechanisms.
- Blocks guest computers that have viruses, which may disrupt the Internet service for other guests.
When Starlink antennas are installed in campgrounds or RV parks they should be configured with the priority service as many guests will use a lot of data. This means that the campground or RV Park will pay for the data used and this is a good reason for the campground or RV Park to charge guests for the Internet service. Guest Internet controllers provide four methods to charge for the Internet service.
The first diagram shows how two Starlink antennas can be connected to double the Internet data capacity available for guests. This will give a total throughput of up to 400Mb/s and be suitable for 150 to 200 campers. The configuration has the Guest Internet GIS-R10 dual WAN controller for 1 or 2 Starlink antennas.
The second diagram shows how up to four Starlink antennas can be connected to multiply the Internet data capacity available for guests. This will give a total throughput of up to 800Mb/s and be suitable for 300 to 400 campers. The configuration has the Guest Internet GIS-R40 quad WAN controller for up to 4 Starlink antennas.
